To say I adore Vivienne Westwood as a designer and a personality really just skims the surface. This woman rocks! I had the opportunity to interview her last year, but the videographer still has not given me the tape. But in that same vein, here are a couple videos for your viewing pleasure. In one, I get the opportunity to model a Westwood dress from the wildly fun Billion Dollar Babes Sale and the other is from the opening of the Westwood Exhibit at the deYoung Museum.
She has recently been in the press due to her dress being featured as Carrie's wedding dress in Sex and the City...and most recently her comment that she did not find the fashion in the first 10 minutes of the movie very avant guard so she left. Gotta love this lady for always speaking her mind.
I usually don't get this excited until mid-July, but this year sale season has started early. It's a double-edge sword since the earlier sale season is a reflection of the increasing worry about the overall health of the US economy, but we are already seeing second mark downs at the big department stores (Barneys, Neiman's, Saks, Nordstrom). Most surprisingly to me is how quickly things are flying off the shelves! With the undeniable increase in the average designer shoe retail price, the shoes at the above mentioned department stores have sold through very well during markdown despite the fact that most are still between $250-$400. It seems like it was only a couple years ago when when the average original retail price for designer shoes was $400!
To date, I have my eye on a pair of Louboutin slingbacks (praying for another markdown), Derek Lam sandals (concerned about the light color), and Alexandra Neel metallic t-straps (probably should buy now). So far, I have picked up the Marc Jacobs nude patent closed toe spring shoe at 70% off at the Marc Jacobs boutique as well as a pair of grey Prada sandals with a blond heel at 50% off.
Since the Prada's were only 1/2 off, I am still debating if they will actually make it into my closet. Feel free to leave me a comment as to what you think I should do with them.
